Synopsis:
Pro football coach Troy Tarbox always expected worst-case scenarios on the field. But he never thought they’d extend to geopolitical strife. After years with underachieving teams, leaving a trail of heckling fans and scornful sportswriters, Troy still chases the championship that to this point has eluded him. What may be his last chance lies with the Boston Selectmen, who are coming off their worst season ever. The Selectmen play in a second-tier league in the Free State of New England, a partially recognized republic that broke away in rebellion from the authoritarian American government. After a surprisingly strong start, the Selectmen find themselves chasing a playoff berth and Troy may finally be on his way to silencing his critics.
But when the Selectmen’s star receiver is apprehended by America’s military police before a game outside New York City, Troy finds his team shorthanded. Meanwhile the league, hungry for exposure to an American audience, demands that he let them handle the crisis. Angered by the commissioner’s stonewalling, Troy defies the league’s wishes and concocts a covert rescue operation.
With the season nearing its end, the fate of a team, its best player’s freedom, and Troy’s career all converge with a new type of game plan—one where the two-minute drill is executed off the field.
